Ruisi Quartet performs Viullaume’s ‘Evangelists’

17 February 2016

The Ruisi Quartet have recorded Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor on Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume’s ‘Evangelists’ quartet, made in 1863.

For sale at Ingles & Hayday, the historic instruments were constructed from matching wood and are based on Stradivari models but each has a carved portrayal of one of the Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

This quartet is one of four completed by Vuillaume between 1863 and 1865, but the other three were decorated with the coat of arms of the family for which they were made and do not remain together as a group today.

Ruisi Quartet performed Debussy’s music in preparation for an Ingles & Hayday auction to be held in London on 15 March 2016.
